Hello fellow readers,
For the month of October I am going to try to read some spooky books, along with some mystery/thrillers. These are usually not my genre of choice, but I am going to try to branch out a bit in the spirit of Halloween. Here are the books I am planning to read:

The books that I am most excited about are 11/22/63, The Hazel Wood, and The Handmaids Tale.
11/22/63 because I have heard so many amazing things about this book, and as a lover of historical fiction, I think this book might be in my wheel house. It is about a person who goes back in time to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination, which sounds both thrilling and intriguing. I like the concept of trying to change history, because typically changing history has negative impacts!
The Hazel Wood is a sinister fairy tale, fantasy type young adult novel that centers around Alice, her mother, and her grandmother. Her grandma has written a book of dark fairy tales, which I think is such a cool addition. Definitely has a Brothers Grimm feel to it, which is awesome. I am looking forward to reading a dark fantasy novel for young adults, as I love adult fantasy, but have not been reading this genre as much as I usually have in the past.
And finally, I am really looking forward to reading The Handmaids Tale as I feel like this has become a classic read in our society. It was written back in the 1980s, yet apparently it is still relevant today. The novel is a dystopian book that focuses on how society has changed after a revolt? A revolution? Not 100% sure, but ultimately the group in society called “Handmaids” are required to become vessels, and carry children. Their sole purpose is to procreate, which is a wild idea. I am excited to see why so many people love this book, and then finally watch the TV series inspired by the book!
Happy reading!
