The year is 885, and England is at peace, divided between the Danish Kingdom to the north and the Saxon kingdom of Wessex in the south. Warrior by instinct and Viking by nature, Uhtred, the dispossessed son of Northumbrian lord, has land, a wife and children-and a duty to King Alfred to hold the frontier on the Thames. But a dead man has risen, and new Vikings have invaded the decayed Roman city of London with dreams of conquering Wessex…with Uhtred’s help. Suddenly forced to weigh his oath to the king against the dangerous turning side of shifting allegiances and deadly power struggles, Uhtred-Alfred’s sharpest sword-must now make the choice that will determine England’s future.
Review:
I finally started this series back up after reading the first three books about a year ago and it’s good to be back! I started reading this series after watching the Netflix show because I really liked the show!
–
The book takes place during the Middle Ages with the main character, Uhtred, who’s a fighting man for Alfred of Wessex (Alfred the Great). I really like the characters in these books, and I like the fast pace of them as well! This book focuses on Uhtred’s fights with some invading Danes, which are described really well!

The thing I like about these books is you could probably pick them up out of order and just read them for the descriptions of the events and time period! If you’re like me and need to read something in chronological order, then I would recommend you read the first three books first! I’m probably going to try to continue on with this series soon!
Happy reading!

Amazing review!
