When the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.
As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.
When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.
Review:
This is the third book in this series, and I have to admit that it took me a bit to get back into this series. I read the first two books about two years ago, and I had to re familiarize myself with the characters and what happened at the end of the last hook!
I’m going to try my best to talk about this without spoiling any major plot twists! Mare is still learning how to use her lightening, and is struggling with how to carry on with the rebellion! A lot of the characters kinda stay the same in this one, although I really enjoyed reading from Cameron’s perspective instead of just Mares! So that was fun! I really enjoy books that are able to go back and forth between multiple points of view in books in a well constructed way. Sometimes it does not work, as it can feel choppy, but I thought that Aveyard did a good job with this!
I’m not sure exactly why, but I kinda struggled to get hooked into this book! The first half of the book felt very slow, and then the last bit felt rushed. It was kinda weird, but I was already invested in the story by this book so it definitely made me still want to keep reading. Hopefully the last one is better!
Happy reading!
