Synopsis (Goodreads):
Love is everything but expected.
Eden Munro came to California for a summer of sun, sand, and celebrities—what better way to forget about the drama back home? Until she meets her new family of strangers: a dad she hasn’t seen in three years, a stepmom, and three stepbrothers.
Eden gets her own room in her dad’s fancy house in Santa Monica. A room right next door to her oldest stepbrother, Tyler Bruce. Whom she cannot stand. He has angry green eyes and an ego bigger than a Beverly Hills mansion. She’s never felt such intense dislike for someone. But the two are constantly thrown together as his group of friends pulls her into their world of rule-breaking, partying, and pier-hanging.
And the more she tries to understand what makes Tyler burn hotter than the California sun, the more Eden finds herself falling for the one person she shouldn’t love…
Review:
This is the third book my students picked for book club and it was another enjoyable read! They decided that they wanted a fast read YA for their third pick, and this was definitely that!
The book follows the main character, Eden, as she comes to California to stay with her dad and his new family for the summer. She hasn’t seen her dad in three years and is nervous for how this is going to go. She starts to hang out with her step brother, Tyler and his friends, and she gets wrapped up in the groups drama!
The premise of the book is that she falls in love with the one person she isn’t supposed to, and I won’t say who it is, but it’s kinda obvious. There was definitely some weird instant love happening, which I never know what to think about that. Is that realistic? Is it ok because it’s fiction? I don’t know but overall this was a fun fast read which was a nice break after reading heavy books like Educated and Alias Grace!
Just a trigger warning: there is alcohol and substance abuse depicted in this book quite explicitly, as well as some sexual content! I don’t like putting an age limit on books, but just be warned about this before you read it!
Happy reading!
