Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

Review:

I was really excited to continue this series and see the cast of characters again! I didn’t love the first book, but did enjoy it, so I was looking forward to see how the story continued. And this book just kinda fell flat. It engaged me even less than the first book, and I felt like I had to skim some parts to get to others. I still enjoyed the story, but it just did not excite me like I was hoping it would.

Safi and Iseult are separated and need to try and find a way back to each other! They make unlikely alliances in the process and get into all kinds of trouble and adventures! Prince Merik also finds himself caught up in a mystery he is trying to solve, and is not sure who he can turn to and who he can trust.

You learn a lot more about the characters in this book, which is good, and the last 100 pages were very engaging and made me want to finish the book and continue on with the story! The first part of the book was boring to me unfortunately but if you enjoyed the first book then I definitely recommend you read the second and make up your own opinion on the story.

Happy reading!
