Synopsis (Goodreads):

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Review:

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions for me, with many ups and downs and in betweens.

The story revolves around Madeline, a young 18 year old who is basically allergic to the world. I thought this was an interesting aspect to the book, so I was excited to jump in! Madeline was content with her life at home. She took online classes, read a lot, and was really close with her mom and her nurse. She didn’t realize anything was missing until a boy moves in next door and she falls for him. She realizes that there is more to life than living in her bubble.

I liked the diverse nature of the book and that Madeline was a diverse character. There are a few things about this book that are very typical Young Adult, like insta love and being willing to risk it all for love kinda thing, but I still enjoyed the book because I knew that’s what the author intended! And then there was the ending which made me so mad!! But I can’t say anything without spoiling! Like I said at the beginning, this book will make you laugh, smile, and cry, and it deals with complex issues surrounding physical illnesses as well as mental illness! If you enjoy YA contemporary books then I definitely recommend this one to you!

Happy reading!
