There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.
Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.
More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.
Review:
This book was so much fun to read. I thought I would enjoy it, but I really loved it!
The book revolves around Alosa, who is the daughter of the Pirate King (hence the title). She is sent on a mission to recover a missing piece of a treasure map, and so she gets caught on another pirate ship to find it.
I really liked how she was portrayed in this book. She was tough, quirky, kind, and strong, and a really great and loveable main character. I also liked that the author portrayed her as stronger and more cunning than most of the men in the book, as she had to keep herself from showing how strong and smart she is so that she doesn’t give herself away! It was great to see such a strong female character in an otherwise not so strong female setting. A lot of tales of pirates can center around the strong men and the damsel who needs rescuing, but I liked how Alosa was the captain of her own ship! She really held her own.
The other characters were also very loveable, and I also liked that there was still violence and death in the book, as it made it more realistic for me. This was such a fun young adult book that I definitely recommend!
Happy reading!
