Synopsis (Goodreads):
Mad Science? Obsession? Folly?
In the future, telesensation agent Justin Bremer studies ‘time’ – especially the effects of journeying through it.
His assignment, which is funded by the organization ‘Les Charges de L’Affaires,’ is to observe the ‘timeline’ of a young Victorian scientist who lived approximately 2000 years in the past.
Equipped with an AI neural-interface, Bremer carefully documents the experiments of Dr. Petronella Sage and her archeologist friend Erasmus Savant.
The Doctor, it seems, is curious about the effects of electricity on human flesh and is especially intrigued by the curious and vivid dreams which are induced after she and Savant are accidentally electrocuted.
Each dream-like adventure (which they call a ‘Transmigration’) takes the intrepid duo into the unimaginable lives of persons and places throughout history.
Justin Bremer dutifully records it all.
Uncover the secrets of ‘transmigration’ in this steampunk adventure like no other.
Review:
So a fellow colleague told me about this book as her daughter is one of the editors for this book, so I just had to read it and see what it was all about! And it was really good! I think I’ve been really into the whole travelling back in time thing lately, so this was just what my reading palette needed.
This has so many different aspects to it, so I’ll do my best to explain. Set in the future, a young historian gets a job with a secret society and starts to view different entries from the Steampunk era. In this era, Sage begins experimenting with bodies and electricity, and her friend, Savant, is around one time when she is experimenting. The experiment works, and she’s able to get the dead body to respond, but a mistake sends both into the past! They call this process Transmigration and they continue to experiment with how they are able to travel back in time!
This book was really intriguing! I really liked the concept and the characters! As a debut novel, I am really impressed with how they are able to weave the plot and character development together, and keep me hooked! I liked experiencing the different eras they traveled to. The only criticism I would give is by the end of the novel I was ready for something a bit different, rather than just going back in time! But overall really well done!
Happy reading!
