Synopsis (Goodreads):
The third novel in Bernard Cornwell’s epic and bestselling series on the making of England and the fate of his great hero, Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
Uhtred wants revenge. He wants the land and castle that is his. He wants his treacherous uncle to pay for taking them.
Heading north with his lover, former nun Hild, he finds chaos as the Vikings battle among themselves to consolidate their hold on the region. At the heart of it are men from Uhtred’s past – Sven the One-Eyed and Kjartan the Cruel, men of vicious reputation. Still, he has matched such men before.
Then Uhtred suffers a betrayal to rival the treachery that deprived him of his birthright. It will leave him trapped with no hope of escape …
Uhtred of Bebbanburg’s mind is as sharp as his sword. A thorn in the side of the priests and nobles who shape his fate, this Saxon raised by Vikings is torn between the life he loves and the cause he has sworn to serve.
Review:
Here is my review for the third book in the series (and the last one I own so you’ll get a little break of the reviews after this book for the series).
Uhtred is heading north to revenge his family. Along the way we get to meet a few fun characters, like Guthred the new king in the north and his beautiful sister, Gisela. This book is action packed with battles, slavery, and love affairs! We get a glimpse into what a slave ship is like and how it’s run, and where the slave ships went! Which I thought was a neat addition!! It was also cool to see Uhtred and his Danish brother, Ragnar, meet up finally!!! I really like Ragnar as a character and think he provides an interesting edge to Uhtreds character! Even though I think Uhtred is my favourite character; I am a sucker for the main character and always seem to find them my favourite.
Anyways that’s probably all I’m going to say on this, as it’s in the middle of a series so a bit tough to review. The end of the book didn’t even finish what season two is on Netflix so now I really need to get the other books to be ahead of the series!
Happy reading!
