Synopsis (Goodreads):
When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.
Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.
Review:
Well this series comes to a close and I have mixed feelings about it. I loved the idea of having a female selection to compare to the first three books where Maxon held the selection. I also loved the idea of having a female ruler and how Eadlyn was going to have to fight stereotypes to be taken seriously! She was a bit bratty and annoying in the Heir but then in this book she became a lot more aware of the people around her and started to do things for others.
The crappy part was the second half of the book, and I’m going to try my best to talk about this without spoiling anything. I’m not happy with the choice she made, but it’s for reasons that you might not understand unless you read it. Basically it just didn’t make sense to me the way it played out. There was too much instant love and it didn’t feel real or organic. I thought that this could have gone many ways, but the way it went felt forced and I didn’t like it. So overall I was disappointed but still happy that I finally finished this series! Still have to read the short story collection though….maybe another time.
Happy reading!
