Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London . . .

As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on Paige, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city’s gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take center stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner.

Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided.

Review:

This is the second book in the series and definitely better than the first book. The pacing was a lot faster, and the characters developed a lot more than in the first, and we get a glimpse into what life is like in London and in the syndicate.

Shannon does a good job of having an air of mystery throughout her books. With the death of the Underlord, Paige has to work extra hard to not only convince the syndicate of the threat of the Rantham, but also figure out who is responsible for the killing. Paige takes huge risks in this book to get the word out about the Rantham and then ensure something is done about it.

The relationship between the mime lord, Jaxon, and the other members of Seven Seals is interesting. You can tell they all are grateful to him for giving them the opportunity to do something with their lives. But there seems to be a lack of respect from some of the members, which seems to be because he refuses to support Paige in fighting the Rantham.

This book was a lot of fun to read, and that cliffhanger and surprise at the end made me immediately pick up the third book!!

Happy reading!
