Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Review:

This is the second book in the Grisha Trilogy and this book is definitely better than the first. The book continues to follow Alina and her fight against the Darkling. Alina wants to save Ravka, but she is afraid that she is slowly losing pieces of herself in the fight.

We learn a bit more about the Grisha and their powers, and we are introduced to some fun new characters. I think one of my faves is Genya. I think she is an underrated character and my heart went out to her this book. I also enjoyed the character development of Mal. It was interesting to see how he changed through the book.

It’s tough to review a book in the middle of a series, so that’s all I’m going to say for now!

Overall, this book was fun, but didn’t overly wow me. I still really enjoyed it though, and I want to see what happens in the third and final book!

Happy reading!
