Review:
I read this book over a year ago
This was a fun, short read. The pacing was fast, the characters were interesting, and the book finished with an interesting cliffhanger that left me wanting more.
Marek wants to be a wizard, even though she is a slave. An interesting character trait was that she had a disfigured foot, which made her walk with a limp. I immediately thought, how is this character going to go on an adventure when she has a limp? But the author included it well on the adventures, and never lost sight of the limp and the pain she felt because of it. One thing I would have liked to have seen was a bit more character development of Marek from the beginning. She developed well while she was on her adventure, but I did not feel connected to the character right away.
Daegan was another great character. He is portrayed as a thief who is only going for the money, but he turns out to be a great companion for an adventure involving an ogre. You kinda hate him at the beginning, but then warm up to his character a bit near the end.
This book contained action, magic, hints of love, and ended on a cliffhanger that made you wonder what was going to happen! Definitely was not expecting the ending, which is always fun! I cannot wait to read the next book!
Happy reading!
