Synopsis (Goodreads):

Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

Review:

I can’t believe it took me this long to start this series. I love the tv show, so I was really excited to jump into the book series.

The writing of this book is so strong that it was like a breath of fresh air. It was so great to get carried away with all the character and plot development. The world that Martin is able to create and weave is truly spectacular and I loved reading about the history of the realm, and of the different mad kings.

I also enjoyed how the book was divided into different characters perspectives. My favourites were Jon, Danerys (I forget how to spell her name🙈), Sansa, and Eddard. The others I found kinda boring in some parts, but I still enjoyed how all of these characters tied together, and I liked that we got to see the events from multiple perspectives.

This book is definitely written for mature readers, so if you are uncomfortable with mature content, such as sexual content and mature language, then this book isn’t for you. But if you enjoy complex fantasy and world building, then I would definitely recommend this book!

Happy reading bookworms!
