An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt but her heart never wavers

Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become the King’s Champion. But she is far from loyal to the crown. Though she hides her secret vigilantly, her deadly charade becomes difficult when she realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. No one is above questioning her allegiance—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then, one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie … and whom she is willing to fight for.

Review:

Ok this story escalated quickly. I knew the premise of the second book would be centred around the evil of the king, but there were a ton of plot twists that were great (although I saw a few of them coming).

Celaena is now the kings champion, and must obey the king, or else those she cares about will die. But she isn’t quite ready to do the kings bidding so fast! One of the targets the king has picked for her to dispose of is thought to be part of a plot to get rid of the king, and what Celaena discovers is much more complicated than that!

And can we talk about how dreamy Chaol is! I prefer him to Dorian, although I can see the charm that Dorian has! But Chaol is so swoon worthy! He’s a dark mysterious captain, so not rich and handsome as a prince, but still handsome in his own way. And the way he cares for Celaena is so cute!

This book really picked up after the first book, and I can’t wait to read more about this story and these characters! Next up, Heir of Fire!

Happy reading bookworms!
