Time for my first book review on the blog. I am excited to be able to go more in depth in my reviews here.
I am loving the Lunar Chronicles so far. I feel that with each book, the characters and the story develops that much more. With Cinder, the general story line was set and the characters created, but with Scarlet, and now Cress, I feel like I am that much more connected to the characters.
The novel leaves off from where Scarlet ended, and Cinder and her gang of rebels continue on their quest to save the world/universe from Queen Leavana. I was excited to learn more about Cress, and I think this may be my favourite book so far in the series. My favourite part would have to be the growing relationship between Cress and Thorne. Cinder and Kai are cute, Scarlet and Wolf are obviously in love, but you are kept guessing through the book on what exactly the relationship between Cress and Thorne is. It is clear that Cress has feelings for Thorne, but these start out as a silly school girl crush, and Thorne has ego issues thinking he is a superstar. But as the novel progresses, Thorne lets his true self creep out for Cress to see, and she is able to see that deep down, he is a hero. The way their relationship progresses and develops is written in a truly mesmerizing way, and I give credit to Meyers for being able to write a relationship that is not necessarily all lovey dovey.
Another great aspect of the novel is how we see Cinder’s powers getting stronger, yet she still has to work extremely hard. Obviously she is going to have a strong Lunar gift, but she understands that she needs to work for it. It shows that even if you are granted great power, you are not invincible, and you need to work for anything you want to achieve.
Finally, without giving away spoilers (and if you want to talk about spoilers, DM me on Instagram or send me an email!) we were able to get a glimpse of what Princess Winter is like, and it sort of leads up to the next novel in the series, Winter. I cannot wait to get my hands on Winter and Fairest, and see how the series ends! And I want to see what happens with Thorne and Cress!
5/5 stars, and definitely recommended for those who enjoy reading young adult fiction!
Happy Reading!
